This is the classic martini made up on the spur of the moment by James Bond. This humorous little moment in Casino Royale shows what (or who) Mr. Bond was really thinking about. It has become a bit a cocktail lore. Vesper Martini.

Ingredients
- 3 ounce london dry gin
- 1 ounce 100-proof stolichnaya vodka
- ½ ounce lillet blanc
- .125 teaspoon (or less) quinine powder or, in desperation, 2 dashes of bitters
Directions
Shake these ingredients (if you must) with plenty of cracked ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and twist a large swatch of thin-cut lemon peel over the top. Shoot somebody evil.
Yeah…and this reminds me of the corner grocery store Po-Boy shops in New Orleans neighborhoods that still serve the Hot Sausage Po-Boy. Consists of 2 large hot sausage patties, grilled on the flat top and served between some crusty French Bread slathered with mayo and “dressed” with finely shredded lettuce and thin sliced tomato. Used to have em for lunch often.

This really speaks to me. I love kielbasa… so much I’m posting about it tomorrow.
Old school sausage on white bread sandwich is what we’re craving after seeing this. Craving!
Love the colors! And the cobb-ettes are so darn cute!
Grrrrr you beat me to the punch. I’m making grilled corn with chili lime butter tonight, you sneak. Quick upstaging me! 😉
I love a clean kitchen. I’ll clean other people’s kitchens when I’m visiting. It’s like a nervous tick. It must come from my way of messing up a kitchen faster than a two year old. And, when my kitchen is spotless and organized, it’s like it seduces me to get out a pan or a bowl and voila I have a post without trying, and then the mess that follows.
Your kitchen is so divine that those four hours would be a pleasure.
I love that the sausage and “cobb-etts” just happened to look so adorable that boom you have a post. And, you made us feel the scene .…as if you are at the beach and here is lunch.
A sausage sandwich sounds really good right about now. I wish I was grilling today. The weather is just perfect for it! Love all the tv and movie quotations. I totally remember repeating that line from Oliver Twist over and over and over when I was little. I was one hungry kid!!
It sunny and warm here in SF, and the fog is struggling mightily to come in, can see it fighting the good fight a few blocks down, but this is the perfect day for this sort of meal, so I am off to the market to get the sausage and ingredients. One of the great things about being in a neighborhood that has some terrific Eastern European markets, can dash out for some sausage and cabbage.
Thanks for the inspiration.
