WINE: 2007 Sobon Estate Orange Muscat ReZerve
FOOD: Ricotta Mascarpone Cheesecake with Rhubarb and Orange Compote
Surely, this golden-colored wine was custom-made for Greg’s cheesecake. It has a great floral nose (think tangerine and orange blossoms), which highlights the tangy rhubarb and orange compote, with lush, tropical orange-vanilla flavors that pair beautifully with the mascarpone. It has enough sugar to enhance the richness of the dessert, yet still feels crisp and clean in the mouth, rather than cloyingly sweet.
This Amador County wine is made from organically grown grapes by winemakers committed to sustainable farming and minimal use of sulfites.
With hundreds of genetic variations, Muscat is thought to be one of the oldest varieties of grapes.
Some famous examples of Muscat include the French dessert wine Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, and Italy’s Asti Spumante, now known simply as Asti.
