I had big plans for my post today. But the FoodBuzz nominations changed all that.
I wanted to do a lengthy and rather informative post. I was going to call it SippitySup: These Are A Few Of My Favorite things.
The idea was a list of a few ingredients and give some background on them. I was going to include Basil, Mint and Mustard. These are ingredients I have already honored by including them in weeklong tributes. Sometimes my OCD kicks in and I spend a week (or more) posting nothing but recipes featuring a particular ingredient. It may get boring, but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do!
Of course Tomatoes were to have been on the list too. I spent an entire spring and summer of Mondays paying tribute to the mighty Tom with TomatoMania.
But I also wanted to include a few other quiet obsessions of mine. Things like Beets, Chili Peppers and (of course) Cheese.
However, all my grand plans changed yesterday when the nominations came out. I suddenly realized it wasn’t the ingredients I loved so much, it was the medium and the opportunity to put into words all the things that are important to me. Though I may ramble on about food here at SippitySup, I’ve discovered that I am also expressing myself in a much more personal way. That feels good.
I love writing this blog. I love connecting with all of you. I love having something that is so important to me in common with so many people in the world, most I may never meet. But, if I have learned anything from this blog, it is that the meeting is not what’s important. The connection is what matters.
So in in appreciation for that connection, I’ll happily make you a drink, or help you pick a nice wine, or just plain show you a pretty picture of food. Because in doing that I am sharing something of myself, and that feels good.
Here you go, the photo at the top of the page is for you. It’s a picture of a few of my favorite things. I hope you realize that this pretty picture is really more like a mirror… because when you look into it I hope you realize that you are one of my favorite things too. So let me say “Thank You” for these nominations, ‘cuz saying that feels good! GREG
