As I learn more about issues of sustainability, locality and seasonal eating, I’ve approached my forays to the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market much differently and with more appreciation for the variety and quality of produce I find. However, I must drive 30 minutes to get there; it’s location in an industrial/commercial neighborhood means that the majority of patrons are also driving. Are we negating some of the positive aspects of supporting our local growers? I appreciate your statement that there are no hard and fast rules, and that we should individually use our common sense with regard to our food choices.
Thank you for guiding us around the Hollywood Farmers Market; perhaps during a visit to my family in Redondo Beach, I’ll have an opportunity to experience it myself!
Looks like a great farmers market, and how lucky to be able to walk to it. I know my arms would be heavy with bags going back home!
I agree with Daily Spud, it was a nice treat, my experiences with LA have been all about the cars and freeways, and I know that’s not the case, but that’s all I’ve seen so having an opportunity to see more was great,
What a great market and what a great place to live Greg. Color me green with jealousy. I’ve been away on holiday without internet access and it looks like I’ve missed a lot of your soups. It’s nice to be back to see what my friends are up to.
I love how you do “series”. In fact you inspired me to do a series. I chose grits but I’m a southerner and can’t help it. Just like you I was born in Arkansas and that’s part of the “grits belt.” I mentioned in the first post that you inspired me, which you certainly did. Now I wish I could get on the next plane and visit that gorgeous market. Save me a seat at your dinner table.

I just went to the Hollywood FM this morning. Is has quickly become my favorite in LA. It has such a great urban vibe and the selection is fantastic. It is almost overwhelming and the crowded streets are so exciting. I also love all the musician characters.
I even ran into an old friend their today and he joined in on helping me make lunch this afternoon. It was a fun day filled with really great food!
… also I’m jealous that you live in the Hollywood Hills.
Hey, there’s LA Film School and the dome. Thanks for the trip down memory lane for me. I actually use to work on that very block where the market is held at a production company. Actually it was more on Cosmo St. But the main building was on Ivar. It’s actually been a while since I’ve been to the Hollywood Farmer’s market. I think it’s time I head down that way one of these upcoming weekends.
I’ve been lucky enough to have grown up in LA, so I’m always amazed by the ever changing appearance of Hollywood. I feel the same way you do about it. I love living here no matter what people say about it. It’s home. 😉
I decided to drag my best friend with me, the dogs and the kids on a three road trip to California to meet the movers. ( my dog is too old to risk flying him) We come through LA and you have made me excited to see the city. Hope your feeling better!
That you took me (and your other readers too, of course) on a *walk* in LA, a city I associate with cars and freeways and, well, no walking. I thoroughly enjoyed that little saunter and it makes me want to visit your Hollywood Farmers Market someday and take that walk for real.
Greg, I forgot to tell you when I left you my previous comment.… It’s believed in Hong Kong/Chinese society that if there’s a wound (or after surgery), it’s better to avoid eating beef/eggs/goose/bamboo shoots/seafood for a while, coz those things will make ur scar stay there.
