Summer of Pie!

Summer of Pie. You must think I’m crazy.

Nine pictures of Savory Pie in the middle of summer. Well, how do you think I feel, baking and eating nothing but warm from the oven Savory Pie all summer long? These nine pics are just nine of seventy-eight photos I did. That’s 78 pies I have made and eaten at least 3 or 4 times each, just in time for the heatwave.

But I’m not really complaining. That’s why I thought it was time for another teaser about my book, Which coincidentally is all about Savory Pie! It’s coming from Ulysses Press and you should be able to get it into your oven mitts by November. Which (at least in this part of the world) is just in time for pie season.

As you can imagine writing a seasonally appropriate book out of season can play with the mind a little bit. In fact there are several pies in this book that could easily be characterized as summer pies because they feature warm season ingredients. So as backwards as my schedule may seem to the outsider, in the end I think the calendar played it my favor giving me a much more versatile selection.

In fact I am sorta proud of the fact that I may have redefined what a pie is. I took quite a few liberties I’m happy to say. Pie purists are going to slay me. I can’t wait!

Can fish tacos be pie? In my book YES.

Do tatins have to be sweet? In my book NO.

Is a won-ton a crust? In my book YES.

Are all pies baked in the oven? In my book NO.

Is soup pie? In my book YES.

Is this book going to be any good? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see!
