Sokol Blosser Rosé of Pinot Noir

WINE: 2008 Sokol Blosser Rosé of Pinot Noir

FOOD: Herb Crusted Pork Loin with Braised Spiced Rhubarb and Celery

Made from Pinot Noir, this classic dry rosé is vibrant and refreshing.  Aromas of strawberry, cherry and citrus also extend to the palate.  The fruit-driven flavors match the berry-like sweetness of the rhubarb, and it’s crisp acidity mirrors rhubarb’s natural tartness.  With an added complexity of allspice and a light creaminess, the wine has an affinity for the subtle richness of pork.

Here’s a perfect wine for spring and summer lunches, and al fresco dining.  It’s beautiful salmon-pink hue will invite conversation, and the pure varietal characteristics of Pinot Noir are obvious.

Most rosés are made by gently pressing only red grapes, but some are achieved by blending juice from red and white grapes.  The pink hue here is the product of a short period of contact with the skins of the red wine grapes.  Rosés are produced in most major wine making regions, from just about every red wine varietal, but sadly does not always garner the attention and praise this serious wine deserves.
