Dopff & Irion Tokay Pinot Gris Alsace Tradition

dopffirion

This yellow-hued wine from the Alsace is highly aromatic, with a mix of citrus, yellow plum, honeysuckle and a hint of dried ginger. Rich flavors of peach, citrus and honey provide a soft mouth-feel without heaviness. With balanced acidity, the wine persists through the velvety richness of the squash soup and refreshes your mouth. The subtle sweet-spiciness in the finish also picks up on the natural sweetness of the squash and parsnips.

Widely considered to be a relative of the pinot noir grape, pinot gris is also known as pinot grigio in Italy, and sometimes called tokay d’Alsace in France. Depending on the region, wines made from this grape range stylistically from light and crisp (typical of many Italian pinot grigios); to full-bodied and fleshy (Alsatian-style). Oregon’s Willamette Valley is producing some of this country’s best pinot gris, which in my opinion lean more towards the Alsatian style. GRANT
