Bastianich Friulano Colli Orientali de Friuli

WINE:  Bastianich Friulano Colli Orientali de Friuli 2008

bastianich wineWith zesty aromas of green pear, citrus and minerals, this wine’s nose is somewhat similar to sauvignon blanc. The palate features pear, floral and herbal flavors, framed by crisp acidity, which pair perfectly with fresh, young peas. Also, this medium-bodied wine’s almond notes reflect the nuttiness of the dish’s cheese, and tocai friulano is a great choice with prosciutto. Classic Venetian-style cuisine like Greg’s Risi e Bisi deserves a classic Venetian wine.

The three major wine producing regions located around Venice are known collectively as the Tre Venezie (the three Venices). They are Friuli-Venezie Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige, and the Veneto. This is an area of enormous diversity in topography and climate, collectively growing approximately 50 grape varieties. Some of the best known white wines from this region include tocai friulano, pinot grigio, pinot bianco, chardonnay, ribolla gialla, Soave, and prosecco. The leading reds from this area are Amarone, Valpolicella, and Bardolino
