Pale straw in color, with inviting aromas of white peaches, lychee fruit & limes. Here is a brightly flavored Vouvray displaying flavors of green apples, pears, green fig and mineral-scented chalk. Despite being fairly dry and crisp, there is a noticeable “honeyed” quality to this wine, which is characteristic of a well-made Vouvray, and pairs beautifully with the mildly sweet custard in Greg’s Corn Creme Brulee. In addition, the wine’s chalky minerality pairs well with the dish’s fresh corn flavors, while its well-balanced acidity stands up to the mouth-coating candied-bacon topping.
Pairs With Sweet on Corn- A Farewell to Ears: Corn Brulee & Tomato Sorbet

Also pairs well with appetizers, cheese, fish, fried foods, fruits, fruit-based desserts, scallops and other shellfish.

I do believe I have ever seen one of these melons… Sounds interesting 🙂
Ahh. I always learn so much when I come here. The color on that melon is singular. And I love the torn mozz. Graceful, graceful presentation.
And… umm.. who’s the all-caps troll? Learn how to pick a melon. YUCK!
I wasn’t sure before this salad.
Woops.…there goes my Christmas delivery;)
I have seen them before but never tried these because I don’t care for cantaloupe, honeydew, and can only tolerate watermelon.
But I did used to have a dog, a collie who just loved fruits and cantaloupe were some of her favorites. I called her my melon collie baby.
(Feel free to boo loudly on that one)
(loudly) GREG
greg never ever tried this nor heard of it! how fascinating. i doubt i would find any here though. i am anxious to try with some cheese.
I’ve never even heard of a Santa Claus melon though I’ve really been surprised over the last couple of years by the number of wonderful different melons out there.
salut greg
In france if you remember we have not so many water melon but more small orange melon with a lot of flavour ; I serve it alone or with ham sliced very thinly ; I also some times prepare with a “cuillere parisienne” which make small balls out of the fruit ;; it is so hot today that I think I am gonna have one I go now to the fresh market ! thanks for the idea !!
Bonne journée

I bought a Santa Clause Melon the other day at our Pauls Market. The Produce Manager Picked it out for me since I didn’t know anything about it. I have to say it as the NASTIEST TASTING MELON I EVER ATE. HE did this big spue about how to tell when it was ripe. and other melons as well. (I do pretty well w/other melons). He picked one that was VERY soft and squishy. told me it was ripe right now to go home and eat it. I paid over $6.00 for this tiny melon. ( alot for someone on S.S and having to watch what they spend). Anyway I took it home cut into it and ALL the juice ran out all over the counter and floor. I went ahead and took the seeds out and dipped my spoon into it and it was as stringy and mushy as it could have possibly been. Mom and I tasted it and it tasted HORRIBLE. YUCKY POO caa caa yuck. I kept telling my Mom that this shouldn’t be this soft and stringy. She said well maybe it is suppose to be. I said NO WAY IS IT. well maybe it is suppose to B. I said it tasted like CRAP. She said it really isn’t that bad. Kinda tastes Like that light green melon I don’t like (can’t think of th name at the moment now darn it). Anyway I told her to take it home and eat it if she thought it was so darn good. I wasn’t eatin it. She took it home took another bite or two and decided that I was right it was YUCKY. So she took it to the Neighbors. Next Morning I found it in the Dumpster. Uneaten lol. WE COULDN’T GIVE IT AWAY. I went to Pauls the next day and told them that their Christmas Melon or Christmas Goose melon or Whatever the darn thingis called was CAA CAA YUCKY. Told the other guy about what had happened and I said I won’t ever try that one again and we was laughing. (The Guy that picked it out for me wasn’t there. But I will see him lol. and give him a real hard time. I have known him for yrs so I can do that lol.) He (the other guy) then gave me a Great Big Canary Melon For FREE because of it. And even let me try it first Now that was a GOOD Melon. I didn’t have a good experiance w/that Santa Clause Melon at all. And I WON’T EVER TRY EATIN ANOTHR ONE. LOL LOL LOL…Sorry I just had to tell u that after reading the name of this NEW Melon that is out. They can LEAVE IT OUT. OUT IN THE DUMPSTER LOL.….
Mine wasn’t mushy. It as a bit “stringy” in comparison to a cantaloupe, but it was sweet, super juicy and delicious. GREG
R they suppose to B Stringy and as Mushy as watered down mush??? I have to say it was Juicy so much so there wasn’t any left after cuttin into it. it was all over the counter adn the floor. I haave NEVER eaten a Melon that soft and mushy. EVER. and /Stringy… they gagged us it was so stringy. It was just way way over ripe i’m sure. It had to B. No other explanation.… Maybe when I find someone who REALLY knows what a Santa is suppose to feel like before a person eats it I will try it again. (MAYBE) lol. I am glade that u enjoyed ur’s tho.… Thank U for lettin me know..
I suppose yours was over ripe. GREG
This is the first time I have heard of a Santa Claus Melon! You always seem to come up with the good stuff. I will have to keep my eye out for this one and give it a try. I love the interesting mix of flavors in the salad.
YES it would b ok in a salad if it was the right kinda ripe. I just know it was overly ripe. it had to B. But Mixed with other melons and fruits u wouldn’t know the differance. That man told me if it as under ripe then it would b like eatin a sour pickle… So he found me the softest one he could. (man was it soft lol).. A HONEY DEW A HONEY DEW THTA IS WHAT I THINK IT WAS SUPPOSE TO TASTE LIKE IF IT HAD OF BEEN RIGHT. THAT IS THE LIGHT GREEN COLORED MELON I COULDN’T REMEMBER THE NAME OF A WHILE AGO. IT KINDA TSTED LIKE A HONEY DEW WHICH ISN’T MY FAV EAITHER BUT UNDER ALL THAT STRINGY CRAP THAT IS WHAT I THOUGHT IT SHOULD HAVE IF IT COULD HAVE TASTED…FINALLY MY BRAIN KICKED IN LOL.… WELL ENOUGH OF THAT CHRISTMAS GOOSE MELON. Y’all have a wonderful Evening. I am going nite nite. thanks for talkin to me. and excuse the caps. I forget they r on plus i can’t see real well unless the letters are HUGE lol.(Leaugally blind i am..and can’t spell eaither lol forgive me I have had a real bad day today.)So I am Not YELLING OK lol. ok then good night all…THANK U 4 LISTENING TO THE NEWBY HERE TO.
