WINE: 2008 Dr. Loosen "Dr. L" Riesling QbA
FOOD: Hoisin-Roasted Game Hens
The very subtle aromas of peach and citrus contradict the intensity of this wine's racy and vibrant flavors of ripe peaches, grapefruit and limes. Â The off-dry sweetness balances perfectly with the earthy sweetness of the hoisin glaze, and serves as a foil to the heat of the chili peppers. Â With crisp acidity and low alcohol, this wine is a real "quaffer," and is great as an aperitif also.
Ranging from bone dry to unctuously sweet, riesling is arguably the most versatile food wine. This wide range in styles is achieved mainly through harvesting the grapes at particular levels of ripeness. Within the German QmP designation, ripeness is categorized as Kabinett, Spatlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein; from least to most ripe. Putting this one pretty much in the middle.
